The Meandarra Home and Community Care Service (HACC) is funded by both state and Federal Government and auspiced by the Regional Council. The HACC service can provide basic support services so that frail aged and younger people with a disability can continue to live in their community.  These services provide eligible people with help at home, support in getting out into the community and a break for carers.

Tara HACC Tara HACC

Tara Community Care aims to enhance the independence of the frail aged and people with disabilities by providing services to enable them to remain living at home.

Priority will be given to those people who are vulnerable and whose ability to live in the community is dependent on provision of external support.

Tara Community Care is funded by the Home and Community Care program (HACC) and operates under the auspice of Western Downs Regional Council.

Chinchilla Community Bus Chinchilla Community Bus

Striving to assist the frail aged and younger disabled members of our community, and their carers to obtain and maintain their optimal health, wellbeing and independence in their own home and within our community.

Servicing Jandowae, Burra Burri, Warra, Cooranga North and Jimbour areas.

Who can refer me to Jandowae Domiciliary Care?

  • Family, friends or other Health Professionals can contact us or you can contact us yourself.

What activities can Jandowae Domiciliary Care staff help me with?

  • Assistance with bathing and personal care.
  • Assistance with management of medications.
  • Palliative care.
  • Continuing therapy programs established by Allied Health professionals including Physiotherapists, Occupational therapists, Dieticians, Psychologists and Speech Pathologists.
  • Dressing of wounds.
  • Assessment of daily living activities.
  • Health teaching programs.
  • Referrals to other Health Professionals.
  • Support for people with various conditions including diabetes, hypertension, arthritis and cancer.
  • Support for carers including home based respite and centre based day care.
  • Assessment and coordination of Community Care Packages.
  • Transport services to appointments and local shops.

What are the aims of Jandowae Domiciliary Care?

  • Jandowae Domiciliary Care aims to provide care planned with the client to meet their individual needs.
  • Jandowae Domiciliary Care aims to help the frail aged and disabled members of our community to:
    • obtain and maintain a healthy standard of living with minimal disruption to their way of life. 
    • recuperate at home after being discharged from hospital when acute treatment of an ailment or illness has ended.
    • assist in accessing both Local and Regional Services that will enable them to lead a safer, healthier and happier life.
    • achieve a sense of independence by living safely in your own home.

What services can Jandowae Domiciliary Care provide?

  • Nursing Care (HACC Funded) Offered by Registered Nurses.
  • In Home Respite Care (HACC Funded) Supporting carers by offering in home care for the people they normally care for.
  • Personal Care (HACC Funded) Helping people with day to day tasks such as bathing, dressing and shopping.
  • Transport Services (HACC Funded) Offering transport to local shops or health and professional appointments in Chinchilla, Kingaroy, Dalby and Toowoomba.
  • Centre Based Day Care (HACC Funded) Offering care and social interaction at our centre every Tuesday 9.30am - 3.30pm and Thursday 9.30am - 12.00pm, as well as monthly excursions around our local area.
  • Community Care Packages (Funded through the Department of Health and Ageing.) Comprehensive care packages for clients with complex care needs who wish to stay at home (requires ACAT Assessment).
  • Disability Care Services (Funded through the Department of Disability Services.) Individually coordinated care packages for younger disabled clients.

What costs are involved?

  • Most Client visits are free of charge.
  • Transport Services are charged at 15c per km travelled. For more information on this, see the Transport Coordinator.
  • An invoice indicating dressings used and cost is given to clients monthly.
  • Centre Based Day Care - $7.00 per person for a full day or $3.50 per half day.
  • Clients receiving Community Care Packages are charged in accordance with Commonwealth Guidelines @ 17.51% of the Aged Pension.
  • No client will be refused a service due to their inability to meet the costs of that service. 
  • Donations to Jandowae Domiciliary Care are gratefully accepted.

Community Involvement 

The formation of the Jandowae Domiciliary Care Support Committee in 1996 and the Management Committee in 2001 have allowed the community to become directly involved with Jandowae Domiciliary Care. In doing so, this has ensured that Jandowae Domiciliary Care is meeting the current needs of the community and will adapt to meet future needs.

The Jandowae Domiciliary Care Support Committee assists with client activities and fundraising as well as channelling information to and from the community.

About Jandowae Domicilary Care Staff

The Jandowae Domiciliary Care staff are employed by the Western Downs Regional Council using Home and Community Care (HACC) and Aged Care funding.

Our Domiciliary Nurses are Registered Nurses who constantly upgrade their skills and knowledge to provide excellent quality of care.

Our personal care staff are caring skilled members of the community who undertake training to ensure they give you high quality care.

All Personal Care Staff have obtained or are working towards their certificate III in Aged Care.

All Jandowae Domiciliary Care staff understand the importance of maintaining your privacy and confidentiality.

Miles and District Retirement Village Miles and District Retirement Village

The Miles and District Retirement Village Committee was formed in 1983 by concerned local residents who felt there was a need to provide accommodation services for the ageing population.

The Western Downs Regional Council oversees the day to day management of the Carinya group of facilities which include Carinya Aged Persons Hostel, Miles and District Retirement Village, and Carinya Community Aged Care Packages Service.
